Center for Natural and Technological Hazards

Mission

The mission of the Center for Natural and Technological Hazards is to develop and implement a research, educational and outreach program focused on natural and human-induced hazards.

Goals

  • Promote and conduct research on hazard mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery with an emphasis on the use of geographic information science and related technologies.
  • Implement formal curricula on hazards mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery with an emphasis on the use of geographic information science and related technologies.
  • Strengthen ties with governmental agencies and the private sector for the purpose of accomplishing the above, and extend outreach to the media, schools, and the general public toward action in minimizing risk and destruction.
  • Develop career opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students through research activity, quality education, internships, co-ops, public service, and a certification program.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration regarding research and curriculum as appropriate.
